Sandyford team are Community Awards winners
Dublin People 14 Oct 2016
A GROUP of volunteers who got together 11 years ago to improve and enhance the local area where they live have been declared the overall winners of this year’s DLR Community Awards 2016.
The aims and objectives of the Kilcross Estate Management Forum in Sandyford are to improve and enhance their environment through voluntary work, education and social inclusion.
Despite a busy schedule, this group has completed a number of projects including bio-diversity workshops for adults and children, two social inclusion events and even produced a calendar for 2016 showcasing their work over the year.
Now in its 20th year, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council’s Community Awards 2016 received 63 entries from community groups for this year’s competition.
These awards afford the county council an opportunity to acknowledge the valuable contribution that community and voluntary groups and individuals make within the county to their communities.
They achieve this through a diverse range of services and activities.
“Supporting community engagement, participation, volunteerism and active citizenship is one of the council’s key objectives,” the council stated.
“These awards help to recognise and reward the valiant efforts that the community groups play in developing and improving their communities.”
