A BRILLIANT Southside student is on her way to the US after she won a €50,000 scholarship.

Dublin City University student, Áine Cahill, from Booterstown, was awarded the prestigious 2017 Pat McMahon Master-level scholarship at a ceremony in the Mansion House last week.
Áine will be taking up a study and work placement in California with San Jose State University and the award’s corporate sponsor, Cypress Semiconductor, Inc as part of the 30-year old San Jose-Dublin Sister City Programme ‘twinning’ relationship.
Speaking at the award ceremony, the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Brendan Carr, said: “I would like to congratulate Áine on receiving this award.
“I wish her all the best with her study and work placement in San Jose.
“This scholarship programme continues to deliver great benefits for the recipients and it continues to strengthen the relationship between Ireland and the United States.”
Áine is the fifth recipient of the award since the scholarship programme started in 2013.
She joins previous winners Tessa Ronan, who has recently completed her placement with Cypress Semiconductors; Louis Free, the 2015 winner, Andrew Kiernan, 2014 winner and Barry Cannon, who was the Inaugural winner of the award in 2013.
Áine said she was truly honoured to receive what she regards as a fantastic scholarship.
“I am really enjoying my masters so far and I am looking forward to the unique opportunities I will encounter over the year ahead,” she said.
“I am so excited to develop my engineering knowledge with the guidance and collaboration of great researchers from DCU, San Jose State University and Cypress Semiconductors.”
