PRIMARY school children from across South County Dublin will be participating in physical activity challenges as part of the local council’s health initiative.

Mayor Guss O’Connell officially launched South Dublin County Council’s third annual ‘Health and Wellbeing Week’ last week in Tallaght Stadium alongside Dr Katherine Zappone, the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs.

Representatives from the many community groups and statutory agencies involved in programmes run during the week also attended the launch.

Cllr O’Connell said: “I encourage everyone young and old to get involved in the planned activities and to help make ‘Health and Wellbeing Week 2016’ a great success

“There is something in the programme for everyone with a varied range of activities and events which encourage health and wellbeing.

He added: “The week is all about awareness, engagement and participation.”

The development of ‘Health and Wellbeing Week’ for South County Dublin follows a collaborative process among partner agencies such as the Health Services Executive (HSE), Tallaght Hospital, Pieta House, South Dublin County Partnership and Trinity College Centre.

South Dublin County Council chairs the Healthy Ireland – South Dublin Healthy County Project.

A healthy county is defined by the way it works to support health and wellbeing.
