DÚN Laoghaire Rathdown County Council agreed to fly the rainbow flag in front of County Hall to mark Pride Festival Week.

The decision came on foot of a motion tabled by local councillor Carrie Smyth (Lab).

Welcoming the news, Cllr Smyth said: “I really welcome the decision by the council’s officials to have the rainbow flag flown on one of the flagpoles in front of County Hall. It is even more relevant after the tragedy in Orlando and it being the first Pride Festival of the year.

“I think its significance is very important and the LGBT community will know they are very welcome and we are inclusive in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown.”

In its report, the council said arrangements had been made to have the rainbow flag flown on one of the flagpoles on the footpath in front of County Hall to mark the Pride Festival, which ran from June 22-26.

Cllr Cormac Devlin, cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, said he was honoured to raise the rainbow flag outside County Hall.
