THE 10th DLR Chamber EnviroCom Awards were launched at the Pavilion, in the Leopardstown Racecourse last week.

The cathaoirleach of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County council, Cllr Barry Saul, and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Chamber President, Kevin Kelly, officially launched the 2016 EnviroCom Awards at the event that was attended by over 20 past EnviroCom Award winners.

These were the winners who were feted for their environmental achievements over the last decade.

Organised by the Chamber, the EnviroCom Awards are open to any business irrespective of size or sector, agency or non-profit organisation operating in the county that wish to show-case their actions to protect the environment.

Cllr Saul said Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council had been a major supporter and consistent partner with DLR Chamber in hosting the EnviroCom Awards since they were first launched in 2007.

“The awards have attracted nominations from very diverse sectors over the years but all entrants have had one thing in common – a real commitment to implementing environmental best practice and innovation in their organisations which has contributed to reducing the carbon footprint of this county,” he said.

Gillian O’Connor, Facilities Leader at Dun & Bradstreet, winner of an EnviroCom Award last year in the category of ‘Best Example of Engaging Communities in Environmental Pro-jects’ said: “It is brilliant for staff morale to be recognised for the work we are doing in educating and engaging employees in good environmental practises. We’re looking forward to the 2016 Awards and coming up with new and creative ways to connect with our over 200 staff members.”

Chamber President Kevin Kelly called on businesses and communities to keep environmental protection on the radar by entering the awards and showcasing their environmental actions. He also stated that he was proud of some EnviroCom Award winners such as Bank of Ireland, the Radisson Blu St Helen’s Hotel and Foxrock Golf Club that all went on to win national environmental awards.

Entries are assessed in terms of their innovation, replicability, environmental, and social and eco-nomic benefits to their communities. There are no entry fees and applications must be received by Friday, June 24.
