BOI Dundrum is now dementia-friendly

THE Bank of Ireland in Dundrum has been working closely with Home Instead Senior Care to help them provide a better service to people with dementia.

Morgan O’Regan, Branch Manager at Bank of Ireland, Dundrum said: “We understand the importance of creating a professional and safe banking environment for all customers.

“Through this training programme, our staff members are fully equipped with the knowledge and awareness to ensure customers with dementia, and their families, can feel secure and confident that their banking needs will be dealt with in a considerate and caring manner.”

Hugh McGauran, Owner and Managing Director of Home Instead Senior Care serving Dundrum, added:“Banking is a major concern for people with dementia and their families. Bank of Ireland are setting a standard in customer service by ensuring staff are trained to understand and communicate with customers with dementia. It is encouraging for families to see Bank of Ireland take the lead, and I hope it encourages more banks to follow suit and become a dementia friendly bank”.

Following the completion of Home Instead Senior Care’s dementia training programme, Bank of Ireland in Dundrum displays a ‘Dementia Friendly’ window sticker.

This lets people in the community know that their local bank is committed to delivering dementia friendly banking and that they will receive a professional and caring service from employees.

Ms O’Regan saiud: “We have found this training to be really useful, and would encourage other businesses and organisations to consider undertaking a dementia friendly training programme to help make our community a more age-friendly one.”

The Dementia Friendly initiative was brought to the community by Home Instead Senior.

The programme enables banks and other businesses to avail of free training to help equip employees with information and resources needed to welcome families who are caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia.
