IT WAS a ‘día muy bueno’ on the Southside last week as a major investment by a Spanish company will see the creation of over 140 jobs for the area.

Located in Grange Castle Business Park Dublin, Grifols Worldwide Operations Limited was officially opened by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, Minister for Justice and Equality, Frances Fitzgerald, the Spanish High Commissioner, Carlos Espinosa de los Monteros, and the Spanish Ambassador to Ireland José María Rodríguez Coso.

Grifols is the world’s third-largest plasma product manufacturer and a pioneer in the research and development of therapeutic alternatives designed to contribute to both scientific and social development. The centre is scheduled to come on stream in the first half of 2016 and will generate approximately 140 jobs when it is fully operational.

Approximately 100 million US dollars have been invested in the new Grifols operations facility that occupies 22,000 m2 of an 11-hectare site.

It will be the central warehouse for all plasma coming from the United States, as it has the capacity to store up to 1,150 pallets of plasma at -30 degrees centigrade, and is equipped with quality control laboratories.

Speaking from the European People’s Party Summit in Madrid the Taoiseach Enda Kenny said: “I’m delighted to welcome this investment by Grifols which will create 140 jobs in Dublin.”

Speaking at the event Minister Richard Bruton said he was delighted that Grifols had chosen to  invest in Ireland.

“One of the strongest sectors in the Irish economy is life sciences,” he said. “The investment by Spanish company Grifols is a testament to the quality workforce available in Ireland.  This investment and the creation of 140 new jobs in Dublin is great news for the area.  I wish Grifols and their team every success with their business in Ireland.”

Meanwhile, Irish company, Base Wood Fire Pizza, has announced it’s opening a fourth store in Lucan Shopping Centre with the creation of 25 jobs.

As part of an investment of €300,000 the new store will open in early 2016 and is part of a five-year expansion plan which will see the company open a further two more stores.

A favourite of Irish rugby players including Brian O’Driscoll and Rob Kearney, Base Wood Fired Pizza was founded by former solicitor Shane Crilly in 2008.

The company now employs just under 100 people with stores in Terenure, Ballsbridge and more recently in Stillorgan Village.
