The eagerly awaited re-opening of the Hartstown Community Centre is one step closer following the official handover of the facility to Fingal County Council.

Keys to the centre were handed over by John Healy and Aidan O’Connell of Vision Contracting. The major refurbishments cost in the region of €2 million. Fingal County Council’s Community Development team will provide ongoing support to the centre, working closely with the local community to ensure its continued success and responsiveness to local needs.

The comprehensive refurbishment has transformed Hartstown Community Centre into a modern, accessible, and energy-efficient facility. The upgrades include a full rewiring of the building, installation of accessible toilets, essential repairs to the stage, replacement of fire doors, and upgrades to the all-weather pitch. These improvements will ensure the centre can continue to serve the growing & diverse needs of the Hartstown community. Attendees at this morning’s handover received a full walk-around by the FCC architects team, showcasing everything the new building has to offer.

Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Tom O’Leary said: “This fantastic refurbishment represents a significant investment in Dublin 15, and we are incredibly proud to be delivering such high-quality community infrastructure for the Hartstown community. It will be a centre that will thrive as a vibrant focal point for residents and help support the many community and volunteer groups in the local area.”

Originally built in the 1980s, the centre has long served as a vital hub for the local community. Over the years, it has hosted a wide variety of activities, including after-school programs, bingo nights, karate classes, and pre-school play.

Paul Carroll, Director of Housing and Community Development, added: “I’d like to thank our Community Development team for leading this project, along with our County Architect, consultants and contractors, who’ve worked alongside the Community Centre Board and the local community, to create this fabulous amenity for the area.”

Chairperson of Hartstown Community Centre, Lorraine Abbey, stated: “We are thrilled with the transformation of the centre. The improvements are remarkable, and we look forward to utilising these fantastic new spaces and facilitating the needs of the community for years to come.”

The refurbishment was largely funded by Fingal County Council, with additional funding support received from the Community Recognition Fund, Community Centre Investment Fund, and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media Sports Capital Funding. The project team included Fingal County Council’s Architects Department, Vision Contracting, McCrae Consulting Engineers and FLN Consulting Engineers.

The centre will now undergo final fit-out works ahead of a full public re-opening.
