Almost half a million passengers to pass through Dublin Airport this Bank Holiday weekend

Dublin Airport is looking forward to welcoming almost half a million passengers over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The airport is expecting more than 115,000 passengers every day between Friday and Monday, with a total of 480,000 set to pass through Dublin Airport’s terminals.

The four day period between Friday and Monday will see close to 250,000 passengers departing from Dublin Airport, with around 230,000 passengers arriving, including many thousands of tourists from all around the world.

The busiest day over the weekend will be Friday (May 30) when almost 124,000 passengers are expected to travel through Dublin Airport.

Passengers are advised to arrive at their terminal two hours in advance of a short-haul flight and three hours before a long-haul flight.

According to Graeme McQueen, spokesperson for Dublin Airport: “The peak tourism season is here and demand to travel this summer is really high, with this set to be the busiest June bank holiday ever at Dublin Airport.

“The coming days, which follow what has been a very busy month of May, are yet further evidence of the huge demand that’s out there to fly in and out of Dublin.

“Indeed, the numbers travelling this weekend – and over the summer – would be even higher if it weren’t for the passenger cap on Dublin Airport which continues to put off airlines from bringing new and additional routes to Ireland, denying the Irish hospitality sector of important tourism revenue.

“Our departure gates will be busy with families heading off on city breaks and early summer holidays, with many more passengers using the long weekend to reconnect with friends and loved ones all over the world. Our arrivals halls are going to be full of visitors too, which is good news for the hotels, bars, restaurants and tourist spots that they will go on to visit in all 32 counties.”

Top Travel Tips For Passengers

McQueen advised: “Passengers can make their journey through Dublin Airport easier and more enjoyable by preparing in advance for getting to the airport.

“Their first port of call should be to download the new and improved Dublin Airport, which is packed with advice, maps and access to discounts for the shops, bars and cafes in the airport.

“Passengers should also prepare in advance for security screening, ensuring all liquids are 100ml or under and enclosed in a sealed clear bag no bigger than 20cm x 20cm.

“Passengers should also be prepared to take hoodies and baggy jumpers off at security screening, as well as any boots or footwear which sit above the ankle.

“By preparing smartly in advance, passengers can avoid needless delays and get their trip off to a smooth start,” added McQueen.
