Phibsboro Buzzfest returns for another year

Dublin People 05 Sep 2024

Phibsboro Village Tidy Towns is holding its 8th Annual Buzzfest on 14-15 September.

All are welcome to come along and enjoy the wide range of events and activities including a Repair Café, free Pollinator Plant Giveaway, Swap Shop, ‘Walking The Talk’ (showcasing home retrofits & biodiversity in action) and a wide range of workshops which are all bookable via Eventbrite.ie

This unique festival continues to celebrate Dublin’s incredible urban D7 community and its progress in increasing local sustainability and creating habitats and biodiversity in the area.

Over the years, it has grown and grown. It has now firmly established itself as a fun, diverse, community-driven two-day event.

Buzzfest  takes place in two locations. On Saturday, the events are all based in St Peter’s Church Gardens. On Sunday, the festival will be running a series of workshops and a Swap Shop with the venue moving to Phibsboro’s Panama Scout Hall and Villa Bank Biodiversity Garden, which is right next door.

On Saturday 14 September from 2-5pm in the oasis of St Peter’s Church Gardens, there will be a festival atmosphere with food stalls, local musicians providing the tunes, entertainment from a local children’s ballet group and activities to keep the younger attendees entertained for the afternoon.

Under the Sustainability banner, there will be a Repair Café with support from the Bohemian Football Club Spark Programme, Phibsboro Village Tidy Town’s Climate Club with their Master Energy Plan. Plus there will be other organisations represented such as Dublin Commuter Coalition group and Climate Fresk — creating awareness on the climate crisis. Also, the innovative new social enterprise Community Roots will explain how they connect garden owners with garden-less budding growers looking for a patch to grow their own food.

Representing Biodiversity — there will be Phibsboro Village Tidy Towns Biodiversity Group’s pollinator-friendly plant giveaway, Rain Garden building with Bí Urban, Connecting Cabra will feature the importance of leaving grass grow for urban wildlife, Ballymun’s Muck & Magic Garden experts explore growing for nature

Over 15 stall holders will also include items for sale such as St Peter’s Church Bric-A-Brac sale (with funds used to support local families in need), Royal Canal Honey, natural skincare from  FeeBee Forager, Peter Clarke’s Royal Canal history, books, crafts and much more.

There will be face-painting for children as well as a colouring competition and the Gutter Bookshop will  be selling children’s books with sustainability and biodiversity themes. The  Dublin 7 Womens Shed will be running a family-friendly craft event. Phizzfest Stitchers and their popular knit-along will be happening – all are welcome to join them. Local community groups such as Phibsboro For All will be on hand to share their activities.

The following day – Sunday – a Clothes Swap Shop takes place: clothing donations drop off is at 1.30-2.30pm, with the Swap happening from 3.30-4.30pm. A number of workshops over the day will be held in the Panama Scouts Hall. Workshops include Minipond Building, How to Stop Food Waste, Create a Tote Bag from Upcycling, Embroidery for beginners  and Beeswax Food Wrap Workshop. The ‘Walking The Talk’ walk takes participants on a journey around the Shandon area of Phibsboro to see home retrofits and biodiversity in action. It will start at the Shandon Park-side entrance gates to Mount Bernard Park (near the Cabra Luas stop).

All Buzzfest Workshops need to be booked via Eventbrite.ie
