There was a great turnout yesterday evening for the launch of the Phizzfest 2024 programme, upstairs in McGeough’s Bohemian Lounge, Phibsborough.

The prize-winning community arts festival, which will run from 10-12 May, is set to be an eclectic weekend of engaging events across arts and community – literature, music, comedy, drama, film, visual arts, waterways, family fun and more.

Speaking at the launch, Phibsborough local and member of Foil, Arms and Hog Sean Finegansaid: “I’m a bit of a blow in, only in the area since 2020, but the first thing that struck me when I moved in is the tremendous sense of community here, and Phizzfest epotomises that best.

“It’s a huge buzz – I still have FOMO from missing the infamous duck race last year.

“Having done festivals all over the world, I know how difficult it is to put toghter one show, but to put together 50 is an incredible feat – and the multidisciplinary nature of the programming right across the arts means there is definitely something for everyone.

“Many congratulations to all involved.’

Festival chairperson Dorothy Smith said: “We’re especially excited about this year’s festival. Broadening our reach, for the first time, we will host two dual-language events i nGaeilge and English.

“Our programme reaches across a range of cultures and experiences, which reflects the urban village of Phibsborough: a welcoming, multicultural place with a vibrant artistic community.’

The festival hosts over 50 events for all ages, across three days, including a headline gig at the iconic Dalymount Park, where Fizzy Orangewill play a stadium gig supported by Banríon.

Other highlights include an interview with literary lights Mike McCormack and Claire Kilroy comedy with Gearoid Farrelly, an interview by Sharon Ní Bheoláin with journalist and author Justine McCarthy, music with Kurdish rising star Mohammad Syfkhan and many more.
