Ruth Dara Community College spreads Christmas cheer

The festive season arrived in style at New Park Care Centre, courtesy of Rath Dara Community College.

The newly formed Parents’ Association at the College worked in conjunction with the student council and staff to arrange collections and secure donations from across Dublin to ensure that the Centre’s residents received an early Christmas present.

Gift bags contained toiletries, soft toys, scarves and, of course, something for those with a sweet tooth. The visit also coincided with a visit from Santa and Mrs Claus as well as the Grinch, so something for everyone on the day!

In addition to gifts, the college choir also entertained all in attendance with a selection of yuletide tunes, and an entertaining afternoon was had by all.

Rath Dara Community College wishes to place on record its immense gratitude to all who contributed, both big and small, but particular thanks go out to Johnny and the staff at Complete Care pharmacy in Mulhuddart and Nadine at Corduff FC, as well as to a number of other generous supporters who preferred to remain anonymous. A sponsored Santa dip at Dollymount Beach last week, in which 33 pupils and three staff braved the Irish Sea, also went a long way to supporting this initiative.

“Here in Newpark we consider it a huge honour and privilege to care for residents who can no longer care for themselves. We consider our residents our extended family. So, we were delighted to welcome the young people of Rath Dara Community College who chose to spend some time with our Newpark family. All our residents thoroughly enjoyed the visit, and we look forward to establishing an ongoing relationship with the school.” said Niamh Brophy, director of nursing at Newpark care centre.

“The visit to New Park Care Centre was a wonderful opportunity for Rath Dara CC to strengthen our partnership with the local community, while at the same time showcase the talents of our students.

“Rath Dara CC has a strong ethos and culture of caring. Our students were a credit to the school and were kind and courteous to all the residents in New Park. We are very grateful to our Parents Association, Staff and Students who organised this fantastic event. We hope to widen and deepen our relationship with New Park Care Centre, and we are already looking forward to next year,” said Cathal McDaniel, deputy principal at Rath Dara CC, Corduff.
