Tuath purchasing 147 units in Dublin 15

Sinn Fein Councillor Angela Donnelly says she welcomes yesterday’s decision to fund the acquisition of 147 social housing units at Hansfield Wood & Pipers Court, Hansfield, Dublin 15 to cater for the priority groups under the Capital Assistance Scheme (CAS) such as homeless persons, elderly persons, and people with a disability.

The funding is going to Tuath, an Approved Voluntary Housing Body for the purpose of Section 6 of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1992.

Under Section 6 of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1992, the Council may give financial assistance to approved voluntary organisations to provide housing accommodation, or any substitute property up to a similar amount, in accordance with the requirements of Section 6 of the Housing (Miscellaneous) Act, 1992.

This loan is subject to a mortgage agreement on the properties for a term of 30 years.

Under the Capital Assistance Scheme, repayments on the loan will be waived by the Council for as long as the terms and conditions outlined in the mortgage agreements are complied with to the satisfaction of the Council.

A capital grant for the full amount of the loans will be received from the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage.

Councillor Donnelly said she welcomes the decision to provide certainty to 147 families/tenants who like many other renters are living in fear of a “Notice to Quit” order coming through their door.

“These tenants will become social housing tenants of Fingal County Council and will now have certainty living in Hansfield Wood and Pipers Court,” Cllr Donnelly said.

“Considering a further rise in homeless figures, this is a very positive move which will alleviate many concerns for those involved.”
