€2 million sports facility opens in Castleknock
Gary Ibbotson 16 Jun 2023The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Howard Mahony, has officially opened a new state-of-the-art sports facility in the Dublin 15 area, designed to cater to the diverse sporting needs of the local community.
The €2 million project, situated in Porterstown Park, Castleknock, features a running track and an all-weather sporting field, “providing an exceptional platform for athletes of all levels to excel,” says the council.
Also attending the opening were Fingal Councillors, Minister Jack Chambers, Minister Roderic O’Gorman, local TDs and Senators, representatives from local sporting clubs and members of the Castleknock community.
“This ambitious project – which has taken around one year to complete – aims to create an environment that encourages physical fitness, community engagement, and sporting excellence,” a spokesperson says.
“The facility offers a cutting-edge and floodlit track, ensuring athletes have the opportunity to train and compete at the highest level. The all-weather sporting field which the running track surrounds will also provide an outstanding venue for local teams.”
Welcoming the opening of the latest sporting addition to Fingal, Mayor Howard Mahony, said: “I am exceptionally proud to stand here today to officially open this magnificent sporting facility.
“Delivery of this key project is testament to our commitment to fostering a healthy and active lifestyle for our residents in Castleknock and the surrounding Dublin 15 area.
“It is a place where dreams will be chased, records will be broken, and sporting talents will be nurtured.
“I am confident that this state-of-the-art recreation hub will inspire our community to engage in sports and will serve as a centre for outstanding athletic achievements.”
