North Inner-City Councillor Nial Ring says he welcomes the “clear and unequivocal clarity” provided to him by the Chief Executive at last night’s council meeting that the services currently being provided at the hugely used and popular Shamrock Terrace Recycling Centre will “continue to be retained in their entirety”.

“After my long campaign which involved an Emergency Motion, two standard motions, two full city council question, a motion tabled to the city Development Plan, and finally another  question put to the Chief Executive tonight (see below), the Chief Executive of Dublin City Council has now confirmed, in unambiguous terms, that the services currently being provided at the hugely used and popular Shamrock Terrace Recycling Centre will “continue to be retained in their entirety” ”Cllr Ring said following last night’s council meeting.

“I first became aware of the plan/attempt by Dublin City Council to downgrade/close down the Shamrock Terrace Recycling Centre last February when talking to the employees there, who had heard some “rumours” to that effect.

“Subsequently, the rumour mill went into overdrive and I received calls from constituents who had heard that the centre was to close entirely” Cllr. Ring explained.

“In yet a further question to the Chief Executive for a written public answer (see below) I asked for absolute clarity by asking him to again confirm that he would comply with the wishes of the local councillors who supported my various motions and questions on this issue” he continued.

“I copied him with details of my own CAC Motions of May and July 2022, Emergency CAC Motion of March 2022, Council Question (CAC April 2022) and Development Plan Motion (Mot-01-01495) explaining that they reflected the wishes of the local (and wider Dublin) community” he added.

“Retention of full services in the centre is what local councillors, the local community and the wider Dublin population want and now the Chief Executive has committed to this, and I am glad that the Chief Executive has taken on board all our concerns for the staff at the centre, and the users of this excellent service.

“The brevity, unambiguity and clarity of his answer is appreciated.” he concluded.
