A new water filling station has been installed in Poppintree Park in north Dublin.

Dublin City Council installed the feature in an effort to encourage the use of reusable bottles.

Independent councillor for the area, Noeleen Reilly said the amenity is a welcome addition to the park.

“I am delighted to see the new water filling station in Poppintree Park.

“This is an excellent way to protect the environment by reducing the need for plastic bottles in the park.  Residents can now bring a reusable bottle and fill it up at the station.

“The park is used by a wide group of residents from walkers, runners, the local GAA, football teams, cricket and families using the playground.

“I personally use the park every day while walking my dog so this station will be very handy particularly in the warmer weather to keep my dog hydrated.

“In last years work programme we budgeted for the filling station and it is hoped we can expand on this and get them to other parks in Ballymun and Finglas in the near future,” she said.
