Youth projects in the Ballymun and Finglas area have been awarded €556,000 in funding by Minister of State with responsibility for Youth Justice, James Browne TD.

The allocation is part of a nationwide rollout of €6.7 million in funds for over 50 Youth Diversion Projects (YDPs).

YDPs engage with young people through a range of supports, including education, training and employment support, social enterprise initiatives, as well as personal development and supports such as mentoring, and personal development activities.

Welcoming the news Fianna Fáil T.D for Dublin North West, Paul McAuliffe, said: “It was great to welcome Minister James Browne T.D to the Den, Finglas, Dublin 11, where he announced an extra half million euro for youth work projects in Finglas and Ballymun.

“The new funding will help three youth diversion projects recruit new youth workers, take on work in new parts of the area not currently covered like Finglas West and importantly now work with young people from eight to 12.

“Youth work plays a very important role in our area and the government will continue to invest and support the sector.”

Minister Browne said: “Having visited many Youth Diversion Projects across the country during my time as Minister of State, I have seen first-hand the positive impact they have on both the young people who they welcome through their doors and the wider communities in which they are based.”
