Station officer Gerry McMahon retires from Finglas Fire Station

Firefighters in Finglas have bid a heartwarming farewell to a well-known member of staff upon his retirement.

Station officer Gerry McMahon, who grew up in the Finglas with his family home situated in the Finglas West area, is retiring after four decades of service at the Dublin Fire Brigade.

Mr McMahon joined DFB back in 1978 and was praised as being “well known for his knowledge, great attitude and has helped many firefighters over the years especially on D watch,” a spokesperson for the emergency service said.

He comes from a long family line of firemen with Dad and Uncle also both officers.

Twitter users paid tribute to the veteran Station officer with one person saying: “Best of luck for a long, happy retirement, Gerry.”

Another person added: “Enjoy the retirement, Gerry. A great firefighter and a great asset to the Finglas (Foxtrot) area.”

Gerry has served this community since 2006 until present.
