Dublin City Council has applied for planning permission for the redevelopment of Kildonan Park in Finglas.

The Part 8 application seeks to develop a junior playground, a skate park, a half-sized basketball court, outdoor table-tennis tables, and an outdoor gym.

The council also wishes to install new tree lined paths, 100 new bicycle parking spaces, and a 400m running zone which will be marked out.

The existing playing pitch currently used by Finglas United will be retained and incorporated into the park and an all-weather football pitch with fencing and floodlighting will also be constructed.

Other additions include two green playing spaces which can be used for seven-a-side football, or other activities and a grassed bowling green area and a space for croquet.

The plans have been widely welcomed by local representatives with Fianna Fail councillor Keith Connolly said the amenity is much needed in the area.

“This has been promised for some time and it’s great to finally see progress on this much awaited redevelopment plan for the park,” he said.

“I would encourage members of the public to have their say on the say on the plans.

“The park will be redeveloped on a phased basis over a short number of years.

“I look forward to seeing the project progress in the coming months and I greatly welcome the plans to make the park a better facility for the community to enjoy.

“This in conjunction with the new Family Resource Centre in Finglas will greatly add to the community facilities in the area,” Connolly said.
