Councillor ‘frustrated’ over slow progress on Finglas Primary Health Care Centre

Independent councillor for Finglas, Noeleen Reilly has welcomed the development made on the Finglas Primary Health Care Centre but says she is “frustrated” on the slow rate of progress.

Speaking today Reilly said that discussions about the primary health care have “been ongoing for a decade now.”

“During that time residents have struggled to find a doctor in the area, Children are waiting years to be assessed and mental health facilities are almost non-existent,” she says.

“We were advised in early 2021 that a land swap would take place between City of Dublin Education and Training Board (CDETB) to facilitate the development of a new primary health care centre in Finglas.

“The feasibility study has now been completed and the HSE are satisfied that the facility will fit on the site chosen.

“While I welcome the progress that has been made we are still now a year on and that land swap has not taken place nor have we seen a first draft of the design.

“It is very frustrating for the community that it is taking so long to deliver adequate health care facilities in the area.

“I have consistently people on to me who cannot find a doctor in the nearby area and are forced to travel long distances to be seen.

“There needs to be a greater urgency from the HSE in delivery this facility for the people of Finglas.

“There was a clear need identified in the area and that shouldn’t take over ten years to deliver.”
