Finglas without a Community Sergeant for over a year

A local TD says a delay with the appointment of a senior officer in one Northside area is having an impact on community policing.

Fianna Fáil T.D for Dublin North West, Paul McAuliffe, has criticised Garda management for delays in the appointment of a community Sergeant for Finglas.

“It has been over a year since Community Sergeant was reassigned, since then the Finglas area has been left without a community Sergeant,” Deputy McAuliffe said.

“The K district is one of the busiest districts in the Country and the failure to appoint a Sergeant is having an impact on Community policing.

“I spoke to senior Gardai about the delay some time ago but an appointment has still not been made”

At a Dublin North West Joint Policing Committee meeting in December An Garda Síochána stated:

“A competition is underway to fill the position on a permanent basis and interested Sergeants in the ‘K’ District have applied for the position. Interviews are expected to take place in the near future.”

“The lack of urgency is impacting on policing of the area, a year without a Sergeant is far too long and the position needs to be filled as a matter of urgency” concluded McAuliffe.
