Local school celebrates culture and linguistic diversity

Scoil Chaitríona is an Irish speaking school on Mobhi Road in Glasnevin.

On Monday, November 22, pupils celebrated fun language activities in six languages: Irish, Spanish, German, French, Japanese and a little English.

A very special guest on the day, Teresa, brought Spanish traditional “dulces” or sweets from Madrid.

This was followed by a soccer tournament between the best French, German and Spanish five- a-side teams.

It was a very tense and exciting all Spanish final. Viva España!

Pupils then logged onto a Think Languages workshop to learn a Brazilian Martial Art called “Capoiera”, even the teacher did it!

Those who love Art created a very impressive indoor mural of the anti war painting “Guernica” by Pablo Picasso.

One group even took part in a workshop on how Irish sign language works.

The main event of the day was the European Quiz, kindly sponsored by the local coffee truck “Bua”, as past pupils they very generously donated €10 vouchers for the winners.

Spanish teacher at Scoil Chaitríona, Nora Kielty, was delighted with how the day turned out.

“What a great day for the pupils of Scoil Chaitríona to Think About Languages and be part of a European celebration of culture and linguistic diversity,” she told Northside People.

“It was a truely great day for linguistic diversity in European second level schools today. All languages are amazing.

“I also want to give the Bua Boys a big ‘thank you’ for kindly sponsoring the prizes for the quiz.

“Local business working with local schools to make Think Languages Day a real winner for everyone.”
