Man arrested after attempted car theft in Finglas

Gardaí in Finglas have arrested a man in his 20s for the attempted theft of a vehicle yesterday evening.

At approximately 5.45pm on Tuesday, a man attempted to steal a car which was parked outside a domestic residence in the Finglas area. The driver of the car, a female aged in her 20s, was threatened and forcibly removed from the vehicle.

An altercation occurred between the suspect and a number of individuals who arrived at the scene to assist the victim. The suspect was removed from the vehicle and subsequently fled the scene on foot.

A number of Garda units attended the scene and the suspect’s movements were tracked to a retail premises in Charlestown. He was arrested by gardaí and taken to Blanchardstown Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
