Bono’s road is namechecked on new badge
Dublin People 13 Dec 2019
THIS replica of a nameplate for a Finglas Road is bound to be on the wish-list of Northside U2 fans this Christmas.

Any U2 devotee worth their salt knows that 10 Cedarwood Road in Finglas is the former childhood home of Bono.
The famous street even features in the video for the U2 song ‘Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own’, in which Bono walks up the road towards his former house and can also be seen in his childhood bedroom.
More recently, U2 have released a track called ‘Cedarwood Road’, which tells the story of Bono and his friends, Gavin, Guggi and Simon, growing up in the area.
The ingenious idea of the new limited-edition badge has been made to incorporate the U2 fanclub’s name, WelcomeToTheNorthside, onto the D11 street sign for Cedarwood Road.
“Within minutes of going on sale we have had orders from Brazil, the US, England and, of course, D11,” one of the fanclub organisers revealed. “The idea for the events and the name is to show people from around the world that the Northside of Dublin is a great place to come visit and we are as proud as U2 are of coming from this side of the city.”
The badge is available from www.WelcomeToTheNorthside.ie and only costs €9.99, with free postage within Ireland.
