Puppets come to life for GPO summer shows
Dublin People 06 Jul 2019
THE GPO courtyard is becoming home to some traditional Irish puppets during the summer holidays.

The McCormick Puppet Theatre has brought them to the GPO Witness History Visitor Centre to give young visitors a chance to see the puppets play a variety of games and tricks.
The first show took place last Saturday (July 6) and there’ll be further performances on July 27 and August 10 with three shows per day at 12.30pm, 2pm and 3.30pm.
Performing on the days will be Mischievous Mickey, who lives on a Victorian street in Dublin where he gets up to all sorts of naughtiness, while playing a game of cat and mouse with his nemesis the local Police Constable who is trying to catch Mickey and put him in the workhouse.
There will also be dancers, jugglers, horses and acrobats, all in puppet form, who have escaped the local circus.
After the show, visitors can experience the self-guided tour of the award winning exhibition at GPO Witness History, making it a great educational and fun filled day out for the family.
Niall O’Callaghan, Managing Director of Shannon Heritage, Shannon Group who manage GPO Witness History, spoke about the shows.
“There is nothing quite like a puppet show to put smiles on faces and to provide an entertaining day out for all ages,” he said.
Tickets for the show can be booked on the GPO Witness History website at www.gpowitnesshistory.ie or bought directly on the day at the GPO Witness History Visitor Centre.
