GERMAN supermarket chain Aldi continued its nationwide expansion programme last week with the opening of a new flagship ‘Project Fresh’ store at Royal Canal Park in the heart of Dublin 15.

Creating 20 jobs, the new store will be Aldi’s 21st in Dublin and another new store is planned in Swords later this year.
Featuring Aldi’s award-winning Project Fresh layout and design, the new store boasts a shop floor spanning 1,118 sq mts, 75 car parking spaces, wide aisles and hi-spec fixtures and fittings.
Speaking at the store opening, Kart Paalma, Store Manager said: “The opening of Aldi Royal Canal Park is great news for local shoppers as we have the best grocery prices in Ireland.
“Our Swap and Save campaign continues into 2019 and the goal of this campaign is to remind shoppers about the saving that can be generated by swapping their weekly shop to Aldi.
“The spacious award-winning Project Fresh design of our new store makes for an easy and enjoyable shop”.
The new store is part of Aldi’s €160 million investment in its Irish store network. The low-cost retailer has committed €100 million to constructing and opening 20 new stores, while Project Fresh sees Aldi invest a further €60 million in revamping the layout and design of all its stores nationwide
The new store at Royal Canal Park will be powered by 100 percent green electricity as Aldi has invested heavily in improving its energy management systems and its entire store network is now powered by 100 percent wind generated energy.
Aldi say its Dublin stores are deeply involved with local communities. The stores have donated over 250,000 meals to local charities through FoodCloud, saving the charities an estimated €450,000 to date, while 16 Dublin charities have benefited from Aldi’s Community Grants Programme in the last 12 months, each receiving a €500 bursary.
Aldi is also investing more than €500,000 in year two of its Grow with Aldi supplier development programme, which offers up-and-coming artisan Irish food and drink producers the chance to have their products listed in Aldi’s stores.
Aldi will sell over €700 million worth of Irish goods this year, sourced from Irish producers, manufacturers and suppliers across the country.
