Animal magic!

SMITHFIELD Square will be filled with furry friends on Sunday (May 19) when the annual Pets in the City event takes over the area for the day.

The Dublin City Council free event promises animal lovers a wide range of activities and live entertainment.
Hosted by the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) Dog Training Academy Team, visitors are invited to bring their four-legged friends to take part in Dog Agility Workshops and the Scruffs Dog Show.
A DSPCA adoption parade will also take place, highlighting the wonderful animals available for rescue.
For the first time, Village Vets, Dublin’s largest Veterinary practice and DSPCA partner, will be on hand to answer pet-related questions and offer pet-care advice.
Pets in the City is more than just cats and dogs and will host Wooly Ward Farm, an animal farm for visitors to interact with and learn about so many different animals.
A range of stalls will also offer pet lovers great deals on a variety of pet accessories, grooming products, toys and novelty items.
“This event is the perfect opportunity for the entire family, and of course our pets included, to enjoy a day out in the centre of Dublin City,” said Lord Mayor Nial Ring.
“Apart from learning to better care for your own family pet, visitors can meet with animals that aren’t often found in the heart of Dublin city.”
Brian Gillen, CEO of the DSPCA, said he was excited to see Pets in the City return for its sixth year.
“Getting better each year, this event is a brilliant day out for all ages and it offer a unique opportunity to interact and learn about animals,” he added. “For pet owners, it’s a great chance to get advice on how to look after their pets.”
