Local woman’s marathon impact

A BLANCHARDSTOWN woman will be representing Dublin as part of Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon’s #WomenwithImpact campaign on June 2.

Over 30,000 women are expected to walk, jog and run the 10K route, starting in Fitzwilliam Square and finishing on Baggot Street.

Among the thousands of women taking part will be Karina Cahill from Blanchardstown, who is representing Dublin in the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon’s #WomenwithImpact campaign. 

The campaign is celebrating women throughout the country who have made an impact on lives in their local community.

Karina did her first Women’s Mini Marathon in 2011, and at the time participated to raise money for charity, as her mother had passed away in 2010 and she wanted to give something back. 

After some years, she returned and took part for the second time in 2017, and decided she would do the Mini Marathon every year from then on, and try to improve her time and push herself a little.

In 2018, Karina’s eldest brother Paul was going through a rare cancer, and was admitted into St Francis Hospice in Blanchardstown.

She took part in the Mini Marathon that year for Paul, raising money for the hospice.

Paul sadly passed away in September 2018, and this year Karina is taking part in the Mini Marathon in his memory, raising funds for St Francis Hospice and the great work that they do, having seen the impact the staff in the hospice have on the lives of patients and their families.

In a new addition to this year’s event, Vhi has revealed a brand-new finisher t-shirt which will be presented to each participant upon completion of the Mini Marathon.
