STUDENTS from Scoil Chaitríona, St Mobhi Rd, Glasnevin, were at the Mansion House last week to help celebrate the growth and development of the Irish language online.

The youngsters were guests of Lord Mayor Nial Ring for Lá na Meán Sóisialta (Social Media Day), which helps promote the Irish language on the internet.

There are around 6,700 languages spoken online, with Irish among the top 100 most used and on March 6 hundreds joined in the celebration of our national language at the Mansion House using the hashtag #LNMS19.

“We are delighted to host this event in The Mansion House,” the Lord Mayor said.

“The Irish language is always welcomed here and across the city.

“Lá na Meán Sóisialta shows that the language is thriving, not only here in Ireland but across the world, among learners and speakers online; conversations which often transform in to real life communities too.

“It shows that the language is very much alive, innovative and adaptable.”

Lá na Meán Sóisialta was held as part of the international festival, Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia 2019. The festival continues until March 17 and the schedule can be found at www.snag.ie.
