WORK has begun on a new 118-bed nursing home in, Northwood, Santry.

Investment management company, Bartra, who are behind the development, say the new facility, is scheduled to open early in 2020.
On completion, Bartra, which was founded by Richard Barrett, will retain ownership and operate Northwood Nursing Home. Officiating at a sod turning event to mark the start of development at the Northwood Nursing Home site, TD for Dublin North West Noel Rock (FG) welcomed Bartra’s decision to construct the nursing home.
“The service will provide much needed services for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients and their families in the communities of Glasnevin, Finglas and Ballymun,” he said.
“The services provided by Bartra will help ease the stress and strain for a lot of local families.
“With standards exceeding HIQA levels, I believe this will a welcome addition to the community.
“I look forward to this premises opening in 2020.”
The Northwood Nursing Home is part-funded by international investment obtained via the Department of Justice’s Immigrant Investor Programme (IIP).
The programme is transparent in its operation with clear guidelines and a multi-disciplinary oversight committee that considers all applications for investment on their merits.
The IIP has been designed to facilitate productive investment into Ireland, including infrastructural investment in areas such as healthcare and social housing.
Bartra’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Flannery, said the company had plans for more Northside nursing homes.
“This is one of four nursing homes that we’re hoping to develop in North Dublin, resulting in the provision of 608 nursing home beds to local communities,” he said.
“The development of such critical healthcare facilities would not be possible without the IIP. Outside of healthcare, Bartra is currently seeking IIP approval for investment that will fund the development of several sites for much needed social housing in Dublin.
“It is our hope that this important programme continues to play a key role in facilitating funding for Ireland’s infrastructural needs.”
Northwood Nursing Home will have 118 predominantly single ensuite rooms, all designed to exceed relevant Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) standards, and guidelines.
The nursing home will accommodate patients across the spectrum of residential healthcare needs, including Alzheimer’s/dementia care as well as respite, rehabilitation, convalescence and day care needs.
Bartra’s Nursing Home Chief Executive Officer, Brian Keane, said Northwood Nursing Home would be developed, and operated, not only commensurate with existing HIQA standards, but also cognisant of emerging future demands, especially dementia and bariatric conditions.
“Excellent quality of care will be delivered by experienced healthcare workers subscribing to, both, national, and international, accreditation standards,” he added.
