Northsiders turn a blind eye to vision

A NEW survey of Northsiders has found that a third of us are neglecting our eye health.

The study carried out by Vision Express discovered that 33 percent of respondents hadn’t had an eye test in over three years while four percent admitted to never having one.

As part of a larger survey commissioned earlier this year, 56 percent of drivers surveyed wear glasses ]or contacts lenses, yet a third hadn’t had their eyes tested in four years or more. And three in five admitted they occasionally struggle to see while driving. 

When Vision Express spoke to those over 40 to assess how they prioritise their eye health they found over 80 percent noticed a deterioration in their eyesight when they reached an average age of 42.

However, 60 percent of over 40s, and 52 percent of over 60s, hadn’t had an eye test in over a year, with men less likely than women to have regular eye tests.

Vision Express say is Presbyopia – difficulty reading fine print or books, eyestrain and blurring of near objects – is one of the most common eye problems for the over 40s.
