Mayor’s power play!

THE Irish Powerlifting team didn’t have much trouble helping Lord Mayor Nial Ring reach new heights during their recent visit to the Mansion House.

The Irish lifters are still celebrating some great success at the recent GPC World Powerlifting games in Eger, Hungary, where the 15-strong team won seven medals and set two world records.

Amongst the Dublin lifters pictured hoisting up the Lord Mayor are medallists Ben Kelly, Brian Hart (who also set a world record), Dave Green, Rehana Manir (medals for full power, deadlift and set a world record!) and Yenen Ali Deeb.

The Lord mayor said he was happy to lend his support and put his "weight" behind the group’s quest for permanent premises and some recognition at national level for funding.

"Although they did lift me up outside the Mansion House, I wasn't very impressed as a gust of wind could lift a featherweight like me!" he joked.
