Dog-lovers asked to ‘bake’ a difference for Dogs Trust

NORTHSIDE model Holly Carpenter is hoping that her Pupcakes can ‘bake’ a real difference for Finglas based canine charity Dogs Trust.

Celebrity Master Chef contestant Holly is backing the dog welfare organisation’s second annual Pupcake Day, which takes place on October 5.

Holly has dusted off her apron and is lending a helping hand to raise awareness of how combining two of her most favourite things in the world – puppies and cupcakes- can actually have a great impact.

Visiting Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre in Finglas last week, Holly got stuck in and whipped up some healthy and tasty treats to try on the day.

Holly is a great advocate for ‘adopt, don’t shop’, having rescued her three stud muffins Juno, Gus and Toby from Dogs Trust.

“As a huge animal lover, and supporter of Dogs Trust, I am delighted to help launch Pupcake Day,” she said.

“Gus, Toby and Juno are former residents of Dogs Trust, so what better way to give back than to help raise some dough for rescue dogs just likes my three.

“I love baking, so to combine my love of food with my love of animals is just so rewarding.”

Dogs Trust is asking Northsiders to hold their own bake sale to help raise vital funds for the charity. By signing up to take part, bakers will receive a ‘Pupcake Pack’ full of tips on how to run their bake sale, plus decorative bunting, adorable cake toppers and even a few recipes (both human and dog friendly) to try on the day.

Every cent raised will go towards helping to care for thousands of dogs in Ireland, with over 2,746 dogs rescued by Dogs Trust just last year.

Pupcake Day officially takes place on October 5, but you can hold your own bake sale any day in October. 

Just 12 cupcakes can help raise enough money to fully vaccinate and protect an adult dog from dangerous diseases, and 24 can help to buy enough food to feed an entire litter of puppies for a week.

Dogs Trust Executive Director, Suzie Carley says Pupcake Day is one of the charity’s favourite days of the year.

“We are so grateful to have the most wonderful supporters, who are always looking for new and innovative ways to fundraise for our dogs,” she added.

“Holding a bake sale can help raise much needed funds, which will have an incredible impact on our life-saving work.

“As we receive no Government funding, our supporters are the secret ingredient to help us continue saving the lives of stray and abandoned dogs from all over Ireland-from rescue right through to the day they find their Forever Homes.

“Who knew the humble cupcake could be so powerful”

Those taking part are asked to remember that human cupcakes are not suitable for dogs, so stick to dog friendly recipes if you want to include your pooch on Pupcake Day.
