THERE were celebrations in Dublin 15 earlier this month when An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar officially opened Powerstown Educate Together National School.

The event attended by pupils, parents and guardians, staff, and community representatives was described as a celebration of child-centred education, inclusivity and the extension of the classroom to the outdoors.

“Powerstown ETNS is the latest new school to open in Dublin West, underlining the high level of investment being made by the Government in new school buildings,” said An Taoiseach.

“With a student body made up of 41 different nationalities, speaking 42 different languages, Powerstown ETNS mirrors the cultural richness and diversity of the wider Dublin West community.

“I am delighted to be here today to open the school's new permanent building and I wish all the management, teachers and pupils many happy years of learning ahead, which will no doubt be facilitated by this state of the art facility."

Catherine Coffey, Chair of Powerstown Educate Together NS Board of Management said the school was delighted to officially welcome staff and pupils to the wonderful new building.

“It has taken tremendous effort on the part of the staff, parents and members of the local community to get to where we are today,” she added.

“This new school is state-of-the art and we are particularly proud to be in a position now to have three specialised classes in full operation.

“This school is truly an inclusive school.

“I would like to pay particular thanks to Principal Helena Trench for her absolute dedication and hard work in seeing this new build coming to fruition.”
