A Drumcondra based charity for blind children was the victim of a mindless act of vandalism over the weekend.

Thugs climbed over the walls of ChildVision’s National Education Centre for Blind Children and damaged their equine sensory trail, mindlessly ripping apart the woodwork made and painted by volunteers.

A statement on ChildVision’s Facebook page expressed outrage at the incident.

It reads: “What sort of people do this? We use this trail for blind and autistic children to help them learn. Earlier in the week, a stoat got in and killed our doves, birds and turkeys which provide so much interest for the children on their mobility lessons. This was upsetting, but an act of nature.

“This mindless act of vandalism is beyond comprehension and not something we can replace easily. Shame on you whoever you are.”

ChildVision is the only centre in Ireland for the education and training of visually impaired children aged from birth to young adulthood.

The charity has received generous offers of support since the incident and volunteers will help restore the sensory trail on Sunday, May 13, from 10am-1pm. If you would like to help, contact ChildVision on 01-8373635 or email info@childvision.ie
