Students strike a pose for Respect

Students from Mount Sackville – Shannon Duffy, Ellen Baker, Anna Byrne, Vicky Medeiros, Brianna Toland, Sarah O’Gorman, Lu Donegan, and Farah Alghalbie – who modelled in the fashion show.

YOU would be forgiven for thinking you were at the New York, Paris or Milan Fashion Week if were at Mount Sackville Secondary School on April 11 last.

The school’s gym hall was transformed into an elaborate catwalk designed to show off the Spring/Summer collection from seven boutiques.

It was all done in aid of the charity ‘Respect’ and 32 models – drawn from members of Mount Sackville staff and the girls from Transition Year – made it a colourful and energetic line up of beauty and razzmatazz.

But it was the four models from the charity itself who stole the show. They literally brought the house down!

The boutiques on display were Shamon, Manley, Take Two, Captain Tortue, Dawson’s Menswear, Strike Performance and many others.

The event showcased evening wear, casual wear, sportswear, cocktail dresses, debutante dresses and bridal wear. There was something for everyone in the packed audience.

The event was organised by the Transition Year students as part of their charity awareness campaign – but the concept of the Fashion Show was the brainchild of Ms Eileen Ring.

Mount Sackville and Respect have rekindled a relationship that lends itself easily to the school’s ethos of ‘Faith, Hope and Charity’.

It is a major aim of Mount Sackville’s Transition Year programme to promote a sense of social awareness of its community and to foster a lifelong sense of helping those less well off than themselves.

There were two main objectives in organising the evening – to raise awareness of the incredible work of Respect and to raise money. Both were achieved.

The Transition Year girls were delighted to present a cheque for €6,240 to Sr Zoe of Respect with a promise to raise more over the coming years.

Fashion is something that comes from within you – so does respect – and at Mount Sackville these two worlds collided to make a wonderful evening’s entertainment.

New York, Milan, Paris – eat your heart out!
