Huge turnout for Simon Home Run

OVER 2,000 runners, walkers and joggers of all ages gathered in the Phoenix Park earlier this month to help the homeless on the Dublin Simon Community’s Home Run.

Concerned Simon supporters from across Dublin took part in the event to stand in solidarity with those who are being devastated by the homeless crisis and to raise vital funds to help provide homes.

Sam McGuinness from the Dublin Simon Community said it was fantastic to see such a great turn out as it highlighted the level of concern that the public have for all the adults, children and families traumatised by homelessness.

“This is a really important fundraiser for us and the funds raised by our supporters will enable us to provide accommodation, health care and supports to those who are relying on us each day,” he added.

“We can’t thank people enough for helping us to rebuild the lives of those who have been so heavily impacted by this crisis.”

As well as helping the homeless, there was also plenty of fun on the day for participants and families with live music, food, face painting from the 98FM Thunders and the Deutsche Bank Kids Zone.

After the race one of the lucky runners was presented with a signed platinum Coldplay album for taking part in the Home Run.

The run marked Simon’s 34th event. It was previously named the Simon 5 Mile  but the name was changed this year to reflect what Simon describes as the worst homeless situation it has even seen.

Plans are now underway for next year’s event so you’ve plenty of time to get fit.
