Luas works begin on quays this week

MOTORISTS can expect significant traffic disruption on the North and South quays on the approach to O’Connell Bridge over the next ten days due to Luas Cross City works.

Restrictions will be in place from this Tuesday (August 1) until Saturday, August 12.

The South Quays will be fully closed at O’Connell Bridge from 8pm on Friday, August 4 until 6am on Saturday August 12.

“At Aston Quay and Burgh Quay, full depth road reconstruction will be done to create new resurfaced carriageways,

? a project spokesperson said.

“This is to replace the temporary road surfaces which have been in place during the construction stages of the project. In addition, there will be smaller works taking place on Bachelor’s Walk.

O’Connell Bridge will remain open to Northbound and Southbound traffic during the works. However, motorists are being warned that traffic diversions will be in place and delays can be expected.

Motorists are advised to avoid the works area but access to car parks will be maintained for those travelling to the city.

An Garda Síochána, in conjunction with Dublin City Council and Luas Cross City, will enforce road diversions during works and will control all traffic and diversions.

“For any non-essential journeys to Dublin City Centre over the coming Bank Holiday weekend, we wish to advise the public to use public transport,

? a Garda spokesperson said.

People travelling by car to attend matches in either Croke Park or the Aviva Stadium should avoid the city centre completely and use the M50 to access Croke Park north bound and the Aviva south bound.

More information on the works is available online at www.luascrosscity.ie.
