ITB students selected for Ireland

THREE Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB) students have been selected to represent Ireland at the World University Games (WUG) in Taipei on the island of Taiwan later this month.

Ireland head Coach, Greg Yelverton, named Jamie Hollywood and Ian Molloy as part of his 20 man squad while Colin Bell announced that the very talented U19 International player, Eleanor Ryan-Doyle, will be part of his 20 woman squad at WUG 2017.

Jamie Hollywood is a sports management and coaching student at ITB and has represented the college team for the last two years.

He currently plays with Drogheda United in the Airtricity League.

Goalkeeper Ian Molloy is also a sports management and coaching student and plays for ITB as well as Leinster Senior League side Firhouse Clover.

The men’s team will kick off their campaign on August 18 when they play their group opener against France.

They will then play Mexico on August 21 with their final game of the group stages being on August 23 versus the host nation Taipei. All matches will kick off at 12.30pm Irish time.

Eleanor Ryan-Doyle will be part of a 20-woman squad at WUG. She plays a vital role on both her ITB and Peamount United teams.

Awarded the WSCAI (Women’s Soccer Colleges Association of Ireland) Ryan-Doyle is the top goal scorer this year, providing ITB with an asthonishing 29 goals from eight games.

She has already represented Ireland a number of times this year at international tournaments and championships.

Her international experience will no doubt stand to her when playing on the world stage in Taipei later this month.

The Girls in Green will also start off their campaign on August 18 against Mexico at 9am (Irish time) with their second group game taking place at 9am (Irish time) on August 20 against Canada.

“This is a marvellous opportunity and no doubt they will do both ITB and Ireland proud.

The opening ceremony of the WUG will take place in front of an estimated 40,000 spectators on August 18 with the games due to close on August 29.
