Swing into action for charity
Dublin People 22 Jul 2017THE NF Association is calling for people to don their golfing shoes and take part in a Charity Golf Day at Corrstown Golf Club on September 29 in aid of a very good cause.
Money raised on the day will go directly to NF Association, an organisation founded in 1985 to help those affected by Neurofibromatosis (NF).
NF is a genetic condition that causes tumours to grow in various types of nerves anywhere in or on the body, which can affect the development of tissues such as bones and skin.
In about half of cases, the condition is passed from a parent. However, the other half of cases are a chance event called a spontaneous gene mutation, where the gene responsible for causing NF has a misprint in the genetic code.
As there is no known cure or prevention at present, NF is a lifelong condition.
The Charity Golf Day is one of the many events organised to help raise vital funds to treat and diagnose those with NF. The four ball scramble style tournament is open to the public and the cost of a team of four is
?¬250.
All participants on the day will receive a free meal and there will be several prizes available for the most skilled competitors. Tee Box sponsorship on the day is also available to companies for a fee of
?¬100.
Speaking ahead of the event, Eddie Creevey from the NF Association said the course was fantastic and there’s no doubt it’ll be a great day.Â
“You don’t have to be great at golf to join in, everyone is welcome so why not come and have some fun while helping a very worthy cause,
? he added.
“The NF Association depends heavily on donations so we would like to thank all who have already signed up and those who will sign up, for helping us help the families affected by NF.
?
The NF Association is run by a team of volunteers, parents and family friends, many of whom are new to the charity sector and are involved to support their loved ones.
The main focus of the organisation is to generate greater awareness of the condition in Ireland, especially within the medical profession.
The organisation was also formed to provide support for families affected, as well as to raise awareness among the public of the importance of screening and how funds are greatly needed.
