STUDENTS from Sacred Heart National School in Huntstown were crowned category winners at the BizWorld Bank of Ireland grand finale last week.

The Dublin 15 pupils won the ‘Most Socially Conscious Business’ category for their Bits ‘N’ Books idea.

The project details a cost-effective way of equipping children for school with just the essentials they need rather than wasting money on unnecessary items that appear in usual packs.

More than 40 primary school children from 10 schools nationwide took part in the BizWorld grand finale hosted in Athlone IT.

CEO of BizWorld Fiona McKeon said she never ceases to be amazed by the quality of ideas from children, generated over only two days in a primary classroom.

“The standard increases annually and this has been a record breaking year of BizWorld workshops due to the invaluable support of Bank of Ireland,” she continued.

“Not only are they assisting us with resources but their people are so engaged in equipping the new generation of Irish children with 21st century skills.”

Rory Carty, Head of Youth Banking, Bank of Ireland, commented congratulated all the winners at last week’s finale.

“As Ireland’s leading bank for students of all ages we are delighted and proud to partner with BizWorld Ireland,” he added.

“In addition to sowing the seeds of enterprise, creativity and money management, our Bank of Ireland BizWorld tutors facilitate primary school children learning important skills such as critical thinking, decision making, risk analysis, teamwork, active learning, entrepreneurship and leadership, whilst also having fun.

“Primary schools are a vital part of local communities. Through our extensive branch network, and our ongoing programme of enterprise towns, our strong presence and connection with communities nationwide makes this partnership a fantastic fit.

“In close partnership with the BizWorld Ireland team, we will continue to work together to grow the programme equipping this generation of primary school children for the jobs of tomorrow.”
