VIDEO: A glimpse of family life inside Ballymun flats in the ’60s

THIS incredible footage takes you inside the newly built Ballymun flats in the 1960s and early ’70s.

Once hailed as the modern answer to the city’s housing crisis, the flats offered families access to all mod cons such as running water, heating systems and piped television.

While the quality of this video is poor in parts, it offers a fascinating glimpse of what life was like inside the iconic tower blocks.

Ultimately, this social housing project was judged to have been a failure and the flats were demolished as part of the regeneration of the area. However, many former residents still speak fondly of the strong community spirit that prevailed in the flats through good times and bad.
