Free weekly boot camp starts in Blanchardstown
Dublin People 17 Mar 2017
BLANCHARDSTOWN locals who want to get fit and lose weight will soon be able to do so at a free weekly boot camp in their area.
Trainer Sia Esther Taiwo Adeshino says she wants to help the community get healthy and tackle obesity and is offering Saturday boot camps open to everyone, starting soon in two locations, including Blanchardstown.
The hour-long boot camps are taking place on Saturday mornings from 10-11am, and a sign-up form is available online at Avnelfitnessireland.com or through the Avnel Fitness Facebook page. Avnel is a women’s fitness club, but anyone is welcome to come along to boot camp – all they need to bring is a bottle of water and a towel.
Sia says the exercises will focus on weight loss and overall fitness.
“At the end of the day, everybody’s different, so whatever we’re doing, we’re targeting the whole body,” she explains.
“Most people are not really fit – if you’re fit you’re going to live longer, you’ll be healthy.”
Sia is a student of Fitness Management who has lived in Ireland since 2002, and is originally from Liberia.
She decided to set up the boot camps with an Irish friend from college after they saw a need for an alternative to the gym, which can be very expensive and intimidating to beginners.
She says she’s eager to help the community achieve their fitness goals and improve their health.
“The level of obesity in Ireland is on the increase on a large scale, so we have to do something about that.”
Sia believes it’s important for people to not only become more active, but also to eat better and make better decisions regarding alcohol and junk food.
“We will be giving nutritional advice as well on what to eat, and what not to eat.
“You are what you eat and at the end of the day, in the whole process of getting fit and healthy, 80 per cent of it is your nutrition.”
Sia’s passionate about fitness and health in general, and says she will also be there to motivate people and keep them on track with their goals. She is also looking for support from local businesses and hopes to work with schools in the future to help with children’s health.
“Kids are becoming obese at a younger age, so we need to tackle that at a younger age.
“Hopefully it’ll be successful and maybe we might do more in different places as well, because the main thing is to get more people to be health and fitness conscious.”
Information on the boot camps and a sign up form can be found on the Avnel Fitness website or Facebook page.
