HELENA Monks, from Finglas, and Maria Barry, from Ballymun, are pictured having the craic with a new version of the Haka at last week’s  Culture Connects Press Play Showcase at the National Museum, Collins Barracks.

The new Haka ‘Camán’ was devised by composer George Higgs with members of Tír na nÓg, CDTB Adult Education, Finglas and Cabra Men’s Shed.

New musical instruments, made from materials normally associated with sport, were created for the performance at a showcase event of activities devised by communities in Finglas, Cabra, Whitehall and Ballymun over the past five months.

The communities have taken part in Dublin City Council’s Dublin’s Culture Connects: The National Neighbourhood initiative and the showcase included mini-monologues, a community-written anthem and a 60-strong performance of the new Irish Haka.
