A BOXING fanatic from Ballymun is aiming to become the first Irishman to be inducted into boxing’s legendary Hall of Fame.

Eamon Clyne submitted an application for the International Boxing Hall Of Fame after his Facebook page gained widespread acclaim as an online shrine for old boxing photos and pictures.

Eamo is attempting to be inducted into the Hall of Fame under the ‘publicist’ category for the class of 2018.

An avid fan and a developing boxing historian, he has transformed his personal Facebook page into a centre of boxing history and a vault for some of the best ever moments inside the squared circle.

Vintage pictures of Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Mike Tyson, Steve Collins and many, many more are plastered all over Eamo’s Facebook page with the Dubliner developing a steady reputation as a brilliant boxing curator.

“I started the boxing page in 2011 and it just really took off then,” Eamo told Northside People.

“People seemed to love it and I just kept doing it every day and it just seems to be getting bigger and bigger.

“I’ve been watching boxing since 1999, that’s when I really started to get into it. All my brothers used to watch Steve Collins, Chris Eubank and Mike Tyson and it just went on from there really.”

Eamo has documented some of the great Irish fighters on his page like Mike McTigue, Steve Collins, Barry McGuigan and Bernard Dunne; but the page has become more of an international landing spot for boxing fans.

Eamo will routinely post pictures of a range of boxing greats, both past and present, with many fighter’s families and friends reaching out to commend him on the success of his page.

“It’s been incredible,” he said of the feedback he’s received from the international boxing community.

“They send me old gloves and pictures, they call me up, it’s been incredible, I really can’t believe it.

“Eddie Mustafa, he works in Floyd Mayweather’s gym, he was a former light heavyweight world champion. He gives a lot of respect and loves the pictures. Peter McNeeley as well, even current fighters in Floyd Mayweather’s gym, people just seem to love it.

“But I’d just like to thank Joe Frazier’s family, they helped me out a lot with all of his pictures and I’d just like to thank everyone that has supported me and continues to support me.”

Eamo needs 5,000 signatures to ratify his application into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. To sign the petition or to view his page and photos see www.facebook.com/eamo.clyne.
