A PLANNING application has been lodged for a three storey, mixed use building at lands at the former Swiss Cottage Bar and Restaurant on the Junction of Swords Road and Schoolhouse Lane in Santry.

The application includes plans for a takeaway, a two storey restaurant, retail units including a foodstore with an off licence and office space.

There will also provision for 80 car parking spaces and 20 bicycle spaces.

A separate application asks for demolition of buildings and construction of two semi-detached three bedroom, two storey dormer homes accessed off Schoolhouse Lane and three terraced, two storey four bedroom homes accessed off Magenta Crescent.

Dublin City Councillor, Noeleen Reilly (SF), said the area has been run down for years so any improvement was welcome, provided that residents were consulted during construction works.

“I think this will breath some new life into that part of Santry,” she said.  “I would have some concerns about traffic management. The road is extremely busy.

“Currently a pedestrian crossing is being built beside the development at Magenta Crescent and this should help matters but it is certainly something that needs to be look at. “
