Bra hammock provides charity with lift at Bloom

THE Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun and National College of Art and Design (NCAD) created an unusual ‘bra hammock’ for the Marie Keating Foundation garden at Bloom in Phoenix Park over the June Bank Holiday weekend.

The foundation worked with designer Tünde Szentesi to create a feature garden for Bloom 2016 called ‘Out the Other Side: A Garden of Hope’.

The garden was inspired by survivor stories and was designed to be a source of comfort and hope to visitors at Bloom who may be affected by cancer.

Its focal point was a hammock made from bras, designed and created as part of a collaborative project between The Rediscovery Centre and the NCAD. The project won a silver award at Bloom.

“We were proud to collaborate with Marie Keating Foundation and NCAD on this inspirational project to help shine a light on breast cancer survivorship,” said Sarah Miller, CEO The Rediscovery Centre.

“We were approached with the challenge to create a hammock using bras collected during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we gladly accepted. The centre is always eager to get involved in materials reuse.”
