Rising mural is back in Ballymun

THE iconic mural commemorating the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising that was emblazoned on The Towers pub in Ballymun for years is back.

The pub called ‘last orders’ for the final time in September 2014 but thanks to the efforts of locals the mural was removed and kept in safekeeping.
The mural, by artist Muriel Brandt, depicts James Connolly, Patrick Pearse and other signatories of the 1916 Proclamation alongside ordinary Dubliners.
It has now been fully restored and erected on Ballymun Civic Centre.
“It looks amazing,” said Ballymun Sinn Féin Councillor, Noeleen Reilly. “Mary Taylor and Dublin City Council have done a fantastic job of restoring it.
“I can safely say no other area has anything as precious as this.”
The Mural will be officially unveiled by Dublin Lord Mayor Críona Ní Dhálaigh on April 18.
