DCU sporting rivals team up for charity

THEY’RE normally competing with each other in the National Football League or the Senior Football Championship but Dubs star Davey Byrne and Kerry’s Peter Crowley have teamed up to lead a fundraising fashion event for LauraLynn House.
Both players are studying for a masters at DCU Business School and every year the school’s alumni choose a charity to support. This year, children’s hospice LauraLynn House has been nominated as the chosen charity.
A group of full-time Master’s students in the school has decided to organise a fundraising team event in partnership with the alumni for the charity.
The team of eight are being led by Davey and Peter and it includes inter-county Gaelic footballers Shane Carey (Monaghan), Niamh Lister (Meath), Philippa Greene (Dublin), Conor McNally (Armagh), Simon McCoy (Armagh) and Conor Grogan (Louth).
The team will host a fashion show in The Venue at DCU on February 24 that will feature clothes modelled by well-known men’s senior inter-county footballers and hurlers.
They will be joined by their female counterparts from other teams around the country for the show. Presenters on the night will be Maria Walsh, journalist, presenter and former Rose of Tralee and James Butler, fashion editor, presenter and blogger.
Clothes for the show are being provided by Tommy Bowe’s XV Kings label, Paul Galvin’s Vanguard label, Scribes of London, Debenhams and The Dress Pantry.
Sinead Hansard will provide musical entertainment during the interval.
Executive Dean of DCU Business School, Dr Anne Sinnott, said: “We are extremely proud of our full time Master’s students who each year choose to organise events to raise funds for a charity and give back to society.
“We encourage and support them in these initiatives. I would like to wish Davey, Peter and their team every success with their event for LauraLynn House.”
Tickets for the fashion show cost €22 and are on sale through Eventbrite.
