NORTHSIDE girl was celebrating recently after winning a major kickboxing title.

Jenny  ‘Baby Wild Thing’ Molloy, from Poppintree, Ballymun, became the new Junior European Full Contact champion at Warzone 2 in Enniscorthy, stopping her opponent in the second round.

The 15-year-old is a member of Fight Club Kickboxing, based in Aughrim Street, where her father, Ken, is head instructor.

Jenny has been training at the club since she was old enough to walk and learned her craft under her father’s tutelage.

“Jenny is national champion and has competed for her country at international level many times,” said Mr Molloy. ~She narrowly missed out on being crowned world champion last year, when the decision went against her,” said Mr Molloy.

“When training for a fight, Jenny trains up to six days a week, including jogging, weight training and gym work.

She regularly spars Barbara Delaney, seven-time World Full Contact champion, in 10-15 round sessions to prepare her body for the contest ahead.

“The fights are full contact bouts against the best opponents around, all the while fitting in all her training around her school work.”

Mr Molloy is hoping to organise a show next year where Jenny will get the opportunity to fight for world honours alongside her stable mate Delaney, who will be coming out of retirement for one more fight on the same show.

The club would like to congratulate Jenny on her fantastic performance.
